Unit 1: House of David
The expression “house of David” is very familiar to Christians, particularly during the Advent season. This expression refers to Jesus’ lineage. This first unit of the fall quarter lays the groundwork for this family, beginning with Ruth, David’s great, great, grandmother. After Ruth, the children will hear the stories of Samuel, a boy who was dedicated to God by his mother Hannah, and who became an influential judge and prophet.

Unit 2: Beginning a Nation
Throughout the Bible we hear stories of how ordinary people were called by God to do extraordinary things. In this unit the children will follow the career of the prophet Samuel and how in his service to God, he helped to create the new nation, Israel. God’s people stepped into the world with a new king, Saul, and a new mission. But things did not always go as planned. The people soon learned that trusting and being obedient to God was the key.

Unit 3: In the Royal Palace
From the time that Samuel anointed David as the new king until the time that he actually assumed the leadership of the new nation several years passed. But through the struggle, David became the king. But he was not perfect. He trusted God, however, in all things, and through him God created a great nation. During the reign of Solomon, David’s son, the great Temple of Jerusalem was built, one of the architectural wonders of the ancient world.
